In a related incident, a wild elephant attacked a group of persons in Assam’s Sonitpur district earlier this year in April 2024, killing three of them, including two forest guards. Another person was injured. According to West Tezpur Divisional Forest Officer Nipen Kalita, the elephant escaped into Dhirai Majuli village from the adjoining Dhekiajuli forest, stomping three persons to death on the spot and injuring another forest employee. The deceased were identified as Jatin Tanti, a villager, and forest guards Koleswar Boro and Biren Rava.
