As part of Operation Sadbhavna (Goodwill), the Indian Army opened a fully furnished open gym in Namsing hamlet, which is located in the Mebo Subdivision of the East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh. In addition to village Gaon Burahs, elders, students, and local residents, retired IAF Group Captain Mohonto Pangging Pao, a Namsing native, attended the inaugural ceremony. The ceremony, which represented the Indian Army’s dedication to promoting development in isolated regions, was also attended by senior Army officials.
The project was officially turned over to the village administration after being built under the auspices of Operation Sadbhavna. The operation, which was started in 1998, focuses on developmental projects and peace-building in conflict-affected areas, including Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. It is believed that the Open Gym is an essential component of Namsing’s rural infrastructure. Its goals are to promote physical fitness in both adults and children, foster communal cohesion, and encourage a healthy way of living.
Along with the opening of the gym, a tree-planting campaign was planned, and students, townspeople, and Army soldiers enthusiastically participated. The project demonstrated a shared dedication to sustainable development and environmental preservation. Residents of the hamlet expressed sincere gratitude to the Indian Army for its ongoing involvement in past initiatives such as medical camps, educational support, and the development of civic facilities, all of which have significantly raised the standard of living in the town.
