Medanta Gurugram, ranked India’s Best Private Hospital by Newsweek for six consecutive years, has highlighted a major milestone in India’s orthopaedic sector. Dr. Ashok Rajgopal, Group Chairman – Medanta Institute of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Orthopaedics, has completed 40,000 knee replacement surgeries, underscoring Medanta’s dominance in advanced musculoskeletal care.
Industry data shows India’s knee replacement market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 11% between 2025–2035. The surge is driven by rising cases of osteoarthritis—expected to affect 60 million Indians by 2025—alongside obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and untreated injuries. Over 2.5 lakh knee replacements are now performed annually, compared to just one lakh five years ago, reflecting rapid demand growth.
Traditionally, patients have traveled to metro cities like Kolkata or Delhi for joint replacement procedures. However, with improved regional connectivity and growing healthcare investments, Dr. Rajgopal said that robotic-assisted surgeries, personalized implants, and structured rehabilitation are transforming recovery outcomes and redefining patient care standards in India.
