Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung on Sunday clarified that the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act (APFRA) is not aimed at targeting any religion but seeks to safeguard religious harmony in the state. Addressing a state-level BJP workshop on the Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samman Abhiyan – 2025, Natung said the Act would not be repealed but suitably amended in line with High Court directions.

Highlighting the need for grassroots awareness, Natung said, “There is a lot of misinformation due to a lack of understanding about APFRA. The government is working on framing the rules to ensure the Act serves its intended purpose.”

The minister also lauded Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy as the architect of the Constitution and criticized the Congress for “distorting facts” about BJP’s stance on constitutional values. State BJP president Kaling Moyong echoed the sentiment, accusing Congress of marginalizing Ambedkar both during his life and after, while announcing the Samman Abhiyan events from April 14 to 25 across districts and mandals.
