Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed gratitude towards the 76 families of Karko village for signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government. This MoU facilitates the preparation of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). Khandu conveyed his heartfelt appreciation via social media, emphasizing that this act demonstrates trust, awareness, and responsible attitudes towards the future of Arunachal Pradesh and the nation at large. He underlined the project’s significance, stating that it encapsulates not only infrastructure development but also energy security, flood modulation, and regional development that align with national strategic interests.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the project’s progression hinges on dialogue, informed participation, and respect for local communities, ensuring that environmental and social concerns are thoroughly considered throughout every phase. Khandu thanked the people of Karko for their maturity and cooperation, noting that their support exemplifies the synergy between development and community voice, aiming to ensure that progress benefits the populace while protecting their land, culture, and national priorities.

The formal MoU signing took place at the Meeting Hall of the DC Bungalow in Yingkiong, attended by various stakeholders, including the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Siang District, Talo Jerang, who represented the government. The agreement was executed by Dumiin Nokar on behalf of Karko residents, with the presence of local officials and community members. This event signifies a crucial advance in the preparatory phase of the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, which emphasizes informed consent, ongoing dialogue, and active community engagement while addressing environmental and social issues comprehensively.
