As part of a statewide awareness campaign about the recently introduced Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, and local MLA Mutchu Mithi took to the streets of Roing town to speak with traders and business owners face-to-face. The campaign aims to draw attention to the new system’s business-friendly and consumer-friendly features in conjunction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s September 22, 2025, announcement of the Next-Gen GST reforms.
CM Khandu claims that the reforms will immediately assist households and small businesses in Arunachal Pradesh by lowering the cost of necessities like medications, farm equipment, and handicrafts. Khandu shared the state’s progress under the GST regime, pointing out that since the start of the scheme, Arunachal Pradesh’s GST collections have grown by an astounding 700%. From ₹227 crore in 2017–2018 to about ₹1,900 crore in 2023–2024, the state’s revenue increased. Similarly, he credited digital outreach and streamlined registration for the substantial growth in the taxpayer base, which went from about 7,000 registered taxpayers in 2017 to over 18,500 by mid-2025.
Leading the “GST Bachat Utsav” campaign, Deputy CM Chowna Mein asked traders to make sure that the reforms’ financial advantages are transferred to customers. He underlined that more cash has already resulted in noticeable progress throughout Arunachal, with projects in healthcare, education, and road connectivity being funded. Khandu reaffirmed that ongoing awareness initiatives such as these will improve the collaboration between the public, private sector, and government, thereby solidifying Arunachal Pradesh’s place in India’s GST success story.
