Arunachal Deputy CM (1)

Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein spoke with traders and shopkeepers in Naharlagun, which is close to here, and explained the advantages, procedures, and compliance requirements of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Arunachal Pradesh’s indirect tax revenue was Rs 270 crore at the time of the GST’s implementation. As the leader of the Next-Gen GST Prachar Abhiyaan at the G-Extension market, Mein stated that it has already surpassed Rs 1,900 crore, a 700% growth. He added that by mid-2025, there were around 18,500 GST taxpayers, up from slightly over 7,000 in 2017.

According to the Deputy CM, this increase is the result of efforts to integrate small firms into the official sector, easier registration procedures, and increased digital access. Mein claimed that there were numerous tax systems in the past and referred to the GST as “One Nation, One Tax.” People in Arunachal Pradesh used to become agitated or startled at the mere utterance of the term “tax.” He commended the Narendra Modi administration for putting the GST into effect.
