In a landmark event that marks a new chapter in the recognition of workers’ rights and contributions in Arunachal Pradesh, the state hosted its first-ever joint mega Labour Day celebration on Wednesday. The event brought together hundreds of workers from diverse sectors under one roof in a festive atmosphere that celebrated solidarity, dignity, and welfare. The mega event was jointly organised by the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) and the All Arunachal Pradesh Labour Union (AAPLU), in association with the Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB). For the first time, these organisations united their efforts to acknowledge and celebrate the pivotal role of labourers in the state’s development.

The programme, held in Itanagar, was attended by a large gathering of workers, union leaders, government officials, and dignitaries. The occasion was graced by Agri-Horticulture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Wangsu hailed the vital contribution of workers to the economy and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving their living and working conditions. “Workers are the backbone of our society. Their hard work lays the foundation for the state’s infrastructure, agriculture, and public services. It is our responsibility to ensure their rights, safety, and well-being are protected at all times,” said Minister Wangsu. Also present at the event was Kego Jilen, APCS and Commissioner of the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), who attended as the Special Guest. Jilen emphasized ongoing government initiatives to uplift the labour community and applauded the unions’ efforts in organising the celebration.

A key highlight of the event was the distribution of free welfare kits to all registered workers under the APB&OCWWB. The kits included essential safety gear, hygiene supplies, and daily utility items — a gesture warmly welcomed by workers, especially those engaged in construction and manual labour across the state. The initiative was aimed at not only recognising their daily struggles but also improving their workplace safety and health. The celebrations also featured cultural performances, songs, and solidarity pledges, adding colour and emotion to the gathering. Workers from various communities showcased their traditional dances and music, expressing pride in their identity and unity.
