A three-day workshop on Sowa Rigpa medical heritage and medicinal plants from Arunachal Pradesh commenced at Zomkhang Hall in Tawang. Organized by the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, under the Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the Tawang Foundation, the workshop aims to illuminate the traditional medicine system of Sowa Rigpa, also known as Amchi medicine, which emphasizes a holistic approach to health influenced by Ayurveda and Buddhist philosophy. The inauguration featured prominent guests including Advocate Maling Gombu, Chairman of APKVIB, who served as Chief Guest, alongside Guest of Honor Leki Gombu and Special Guests Tawang DC Namgyal Angmo and Geshi Dhondup Tsering. The gathering included traditional medicine practitioners from Leh and Tawang, fostering knowledge sharing about the heritage and medicinal plants relevant to Sowa Rigpa. In his opening remarks, Advocate Gombu pointed out the potential for extending the practice of Sowa Rigpa within the Indian medical framework, which could enhance healing treatments for various health issues. The workshop’s objectives are to promote awareness, facilitate knowledge exchange, and aid in the preservation of Himalayan traditional medical practices.
