Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Roing and Balinong are undergoing a green transformation under the leadership of Arunachal Pradesh’s new Director of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Sibo Passing. As part of an ambitious sustainability initiative, the ITIs are integrating eco-friendly practices such as afforestation and renewable energy adoption to set an example for educational institutions across the state.

During his visit to the campuses on Tuesday, Passing led a plantation drive aimed at enhancing the green cover of the institutions. At ITI Roing, 100 Burmese grape saplings were planted, while 50 Jujube saplings were introduced at ITI Balinong. The effort is intended to develop Roing’s campus into a Burmese grape orchard and Balinong’s into a Jujube garden, fostering a sustainable and green learning environment. Students and faculty members enthusiastically participated in the drive, reinforcing their commitment to environmental conservation.

Apart from the plantation initiative, Passing engaged in interactive sessions with students and faculty members to address key institutional challenges. At ITI Roing, concerns over boundary encroachment were raised, while ITI Balinong reported erosion threats affecting the campus. The director assured the institutions that these pressing issues would be taken up with the relevant authorities for swift resolution.

Following a thorough inspection of the campuses, Passing underscored the significance of making ITIs model institutions not only for skill development but also for environmental responsibility. He urged students and faculty members to adopt green practices, maintain clean and sustainable campuses, and integrate modern vocational training methodologies.

The principals of both institutions, RC Dutta (ITI Roing) and Er. Subash Pertin (ITI Balinong), welcomed the director’s visit and expressed gratitude for his proactive approach to institutional development. Dutta particularly highlighted Passing’s vision of upgrading ITI trades with cutting-edge technology, which he described as highly encouraging for students.

“The visit was a remarkable success. His direct interaction with students, inspection of hostels, and review of training modules demonstrate his dedication to ITI growth,” Dutta said. He further praised Passing’s personal involvement in the plantation drive, calling it an inspiring gesture that motivated the entire ITI community.

Sibo Passing, known for his leadership in the Eco-Clean Mebo Mission during his tenure as ADC Mebo, has been a strong advocate for environmental sustainability. His latest efforts signal a transformative shift in Arunachal Pradesh’s ITIs, positioning them as pioneers of green education and vocational excellence.
