Authorities in Arunachal Pradesh conducted a surprise monitoring drive in Nampong town this week to check whether local businesses were complying with statutory regulations relating to trade licenses, food safety, metrological standards, and hygiene. The exercise, carried out by a team of officials from different departments, was aimed at tightening oversight and ensuring public health protection in the border town. The inspection team visited a number of shops, roadside eateries, and food business establishments across Nampong. Officials reviewed valid trade licenses, inspected weighing and measuring instruments, and checked whether food handlers were following basic safety and hygiene norms.

Special attention was given to the condition of kitchens, storage facilities, and the handling of perishable food items. Officials reminded shopkeepers that expired goods, improper packaging, or unhygienic storage would not be tolerated. Those running hotels and small restaurants were urged to maintain strict cleanliness in cooking areas and to provide safe drinking water to customers. During the checks, authorities reiterated the importance of maintaining hygiene standards in the larger interest of public health. “The safety of consumers is our top priority. Businesses must understand that compliance with hygiene and safety standards is not optional but mandatory,” one official said.

Business owners were advised to adopt practices such as wearing clean aprons while handling food, maintaining waste disposal systems, and keeping proper records of supplies. They were also asked to cooperate with regulatory agencies and ensure that their staff received regular health check-ups. Officials clarified that the purpose of the exercise was not merely punitive but also educational. Shopkeepers and traders were counseled on the significance of food safety guidelines laid down by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and were urged to adhere to them strictly.
