Officials from the Arunachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC), led by acting chairperson Bamang Tago and secretary Ibom Tao, recently completed a three-day training program organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The program, held from November 18-20, aimed to enhance the capacity of APSHRC officials in addressing human rights issues effectively across the state. The valedictory session of the training was graced by NHRC acting chairperson Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, who commended the APSHRC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its institutional capacity since its establishment in 2023. Emphasizing the critical role of Arunachal Pradesh in India’s human rights framework, Sayani underscored the need to safeguard justice, equality, and liberty in the region.
“This training has provided an opportunity to reflect on the core principles of justice, equality, and liberty enshrined in our Constitution, which are central to our work in promoting and protecting human rights nationwide,” said Sayani. Bamang Tago highlighted the importance of the training in addressing pressing human rights concerns such as human trafficking and drug addiction in Arunachal Pradesh. He noted, “Given our diverse geography and culture, addressing human rights issues requires a tailored approach. This training will help our officers better understand human rights concerns and collaborate effectively with the state government.”
NHRC Secretary-General Bharat Lal also praised the proactive approach of APSHRC, comparing its potential to the early sunrise in Arunachal Pradesh. “Just as the sun rises first in Arunachal Pradesh, the APSHRC can set a benchmark for other state commissions,” he said.
