Arunachal Pradesh took a major leap in strengthening its agricultural and trade sectors on Thursday with the launch of the state’s first outbound air cargo service from Donyi Polo Airport. Civil Aviation Minister Balo Raja flagged off the service under the initiative ‘Empowering Farmers, Connecting Markets’, aimed at linking local producers with larger domestic markets and ensuring faster delivery of perishable goods.Speaking after the launch, Minister Raja said, “Today, I had the privilege to flag off the first outbound air cargo from our state at Donyi Polo Airport. This initiative will open new horizons for our hardworking farmers.”

The air cargo facility will primarily focus on transporting fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other perishable produce that often face losses due to delays in road transport, particularly from remote districts. Officials expect the service to reduce wastage, improve farmers’ incomes, and enhance market access across the region. In addition to the cargo launch, Minister Raja reviewed the newly constructed terminal building at Donyi Polo Airport, which can handle over 400 passengers simultaneously. Equipped with modern amenities, the terminal is slated for formal inauguration on September 2. “The new terminal is a symbol of Arunachal Pradesh’s growing connectivity and aspirations,” he added.

Donyi Polo Airport, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2022, is the state’s first greenfield airport. Since its opening, passenger numbers and flight operations have steadily increased. The addition of the cargo facility and upgraded terminal falls under the Centre’s UDAN scheme, which aims to expand air connectivity and economic growth in the Northeast. The new services are expected to transform trade, reduce logistical challenges, and support local businesses across Arunachal Pradesh.
