Hosts Arunachal Pradesh booked their place in the final round of the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games football tournament in both men’s and women’s categories with commanding performances in the group stage.
On the concluding day of league matches, the Arunachal men’s team clinched a hard-fought 2-1 win over Nagaland, sealing the top spot in their group standings. The victory ensured their progression to the championship round.
The women’s side delivered a stunning display, thrashing Manipur 8-0 to finish as group toppers. Their dominant performance underlined Arunachal’s strong presence in the tournament.
The final round of the football competition is scheduled to take place in Chhattisgarh next month.
In another closely contested fixture, Assam edged past Sikkim 3-2 in the men’s category.
With both teams advancing, hosts Arunachal will now aim to carry their momentum into the finals and contend for the title.
