Delhi police arrested a woman on charges of making racist remarks against three girls from Arunachal Pradesh in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. “The lady who insulted and abused our three Arunachalee girls in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi has been arrested. Stringent action will be taken as per law. The male has also been booked. The chargesheet will be filled at the earliest,” said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. The incident, which sparked outrage on social media, highlighted ongoing concerns about racial discrimination faced by people from Northeast India living and working in the national capital. Authorities moved quickly after the complaint surfaced, leading to the arrest of the accused.

Police said a case was registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station under Sections 79, 351(2), 3(5) and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Harsh Singh and his wife Ruby Jain, residents of Malviya Nagar. The FIR stems from a dispute that allegedly took place on February 20 around 3.30 pm. According to investigators, the three complainants were getting electrical installation work carried out at their rented fourth-floor flat when dust and debris from the drilling allegedly fell into the premises below, triggering an altercation with their neighbours.
Officials have assured that further investigation is underway and strict legal action will follow as per the law.
