Arunachal Pradesh witnessed a spectacular display of strength and determination as Basanti Thriju clinched the Gold Medal and the prestigious title of “Strongest Woman of Arunachal Pradesh” at the 6th WPC State Powerlifting Championship 2025, underscoring the rising prominence of women in competitive strength sports in the state. Guided by coach Norbu Lama, Thriju’s performance drew widespread acclaim, with her team from Tawang being praised for their dedication and coordination throughout the event. The championship served as a platform to showcase not only individual talent but also the collective spirit of emerging athletes from across Arunachal Pradesh.

The week-long competition, organized under the Arunachal World Powerlifting Congress, featured participants from districts including Papumpare, Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Keyi Panyor, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Namsai, West Siang, and Lepa Rada. The championship kicked off with an inauguration ceremony by Lokam Anand, Corporator of Ward No. 1, while entrepreneur Biki Punung graced the event as Guest of Honour.

The powerlifting events continued late into Sunday night, culminating in a prize distribution ceremony attended by Ritemso Manyu, State BJP Secretary, and Amit Kumar Pandey, Joint Treasurer of the State BJP Office. Organizers expressed gratitude to participants, officials, and supporters, emphasizing that the event reflected Arunachal Pradesh’s growing enthusiasm for powerlifting and its commitment to nurturing local sporting talent.
