Over a thousand devotees, monks, and dignitaries gathered at Lungchaseng Buddhist Vihar in Nampong, Arunachal Pradesh, for a three-day celebration marking the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima. The event, held in the Namsai district, concluded on Monday with great spiritual fervour and community participation.

The celebrations began with the inauguration of a new Buddha Vihar building by Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. Speaking at the formal session that followed, Mein emphasized the sacredness of Buddha Purnima, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and nirvana of Lord Buddha. He noted that the day holds deep spiritual significance for Buddhists across the world.

“This day reminds us of the eternal teachings of peace, compassion, and wisdom that Lord Buddha shared with humanity,” Mein said.

The inaugural ceremony was marked by the release of a commemorative souvenir, launched by invited dignitaries and guest speakers from various parts of the state.

Among the key attendees were Namsai MLA Zingnu Namchoom, Forest Minister Wangki Lowang, Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao, Deputy Commissioner CR Khampa, Superintendent of Police Sangey Thinley, and State Health Minister Biyuram Wahge. Their presence added weight to the importance of the occasion.

Senior monks from across the region graced the event, including Bhikkhu Panyarakkhita and the President of the All Assam Bauddha Mahasabha. Monks and bhikkhus from both Arunachal and neighbouring Assam participated in the prayers, teachings, and spiritual discourses over the three days.

The festival included chanting sessions, meditation programs, and cultural performances that reflected Buddhist traditions and teachings. Devotees from all age groups took part in lighting butter lamps and offering prayers, reinforcing a sense of peace and harmony.

The grand celebration at Lungchaseng Vihar underscored the strong presence and growing influence of Buddhist culture in the region. It also highlighted the role of religious institutions in promoting unity and spiritual awareness among diverse communities in Arunachal Pradesh.
