Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister announced the approval of a world-class football stadium in Itanagar, sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) with an estimated budget of Rs 200 crore. This announcement was made during the inaugural ceremony of the Under-23 Tri-Nation Championship 2026, featuring teams from Bhutan, Tajikistan, and host India, held at the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium in Papum Pare district. Khandu noted that construction is expected to start within this year, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and fostering athletic talent in the state. The event was attended by football legend Sunil Chetry and State Sports Minister Kento Jini, with Chetry encouraging youth to seriously pursue sports and aim for excellence. In the opening match of the tournament, Tajikistan defeated Bhutan 1-0.
