In a move to bolster the power transmission and distribution network across Arunachal Pradesh, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein chaired a high-level review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Namsai on Thursday. The meeting focused on accelerating the implementation of the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening the Transmission and Distribution System, aimed at improving electricity supply, particularly in the state’s remote and underserved regions.

Chowna Mein emphasized that with Arunachal Pradesh rapidly developing in the power sector — especially with several hydropower projects in the pipeline — there is an urgent need to reinforce the transmission and distribution (T&D) infrastructure. “Timely evacuation and delivery of power is essential. Our goal is to ensure reliable, equitable electricity access for every household, even in the remotest corners,” he stated.

During the meeting, officials reviewed ongoing works under the scheme and identified key challenges affecting timely completion. The Deputy CM urged the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) to speed up the remaining work under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). He stressed the importance of close coordination between the power department, district administrations, and local elected representatives to overcome hurdles on the ground.

In a significant boost to the state’s power capacity, Mein announced the commissioning of three major power infrastructure components:

The 33 kV side of the 132 kV Niglok Sub-station

The 33 kV Niglok–Ruskin transmission line

The 33 kV Oyan Sub-station

These projects are expected to improve power reliability in East Siang and adjoining districts, which have long faced issues of erratic supply.

The discussions also addressed district-specific challenges, including terrain-related delays, land issues, and manpower constraints. Officials explored ways to streamline project execution and fast-track infrastructure rollout in sync with Arunachal’s long-term energy roadmap.

“The vision is clear — to make Arunachal Pradesh not just self-sufficient, but power surplus. With improved connectivity and upgraded infrastructure, we are inching closer to that goal,” Mein said.
