Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu emphasized the state’s strong commitment to safeguarding its abundant wildlife, particularly the beautiful tiger and its natural habitat, on the occasion of International Tiger Day. The chief minister emphasized the importance of tigers in preserving ecological balance and serving as a symbol of national pride in a social media post. In addition to being apex predators, tigers are also proud symbols of our country’s history and essential markers of a thriving ecology. We renew our commitment to protecting them and their habitats on #InternationalTigerDay,” Khandu wrote in a post on X.
He went on to say, “Let’s work together to protect them so that future generations can continue to be amazed by their grace in the wild.” There are two important tiger reserves in Arunachal Pradesh, Namdapha in Changlang district and Pakke in Pakke Kessang, where major conservation efforts are being carried out. The state is known for its extensive forest cover and biological wealth. These protected regions support abundant biodiversity and are vital to India’s environmental legacy in addition to being vital tiger habitats.
At the 2010 St Petersburg Tiger Summit, International Tiger Day was created to increase awareness of the dangers tigers face, such as habitat loss, poaching, and conflict between humans and wildlife. It is celebrated worldwide on July 29. The day also serves as a reminder that ecological responsibility and sustainable development need to be balanced. Arunachal hopes to maintain its status as a refuge for its tigers and wildlife legacy via sustained leadership and community engagement.
