Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) in Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the 6th edition of Fit India Week with great enthusiasm, emphasizing health, fitness, and environmental awareness. Organized in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the event saw active participation from over 400 students, faculty, staff, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and community members.
Tamme Phassang, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), inaugurated the event as Chief Guest, encouraging youth to maintain fitness alongside a clean environment. “Fitness is incomplete without hygiene and discipline,” Phassang stated, urging students to avoid harmful habits and embrace balanced living for a “Fit Arunachal and Fit India.” He also administered the Fitness Pledge to attendees, which included national-level athletes.
Guest of Honour Fr. (Dr.) Jose George SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, underscored the role of discipline in achieving success. DNGC Principal Dr. M.Q. Khan highlighted the event’s objective to combat modern health challenges such as obesity and sedentary lifestyles, advocating for balanced nutrition and physical activity.
The week featured spirited competitions in football, volleyball, and tug-of-war, with winners including NCC and NSS teams in various categories. SAI Assistant Director Satrajit Kachari commended DNGC for its dedication to fitness initiatives. The event was skillfully coordinated by NSS Officer Botem Moyong and Physical Education Teacher L.R. Singh, making it a resounding success.
