In a push to boost entrepreneurship and skill development, Minister Jayant Chaudhary launched 30 Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) and four Incubation Centres during the Northeast Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Conclave 2024 at IIM Shillong. The initiative aims to foster 900 startups across the region and includes comprehensive training programs, seed grants, and infrastructure upgrades for educational institutions.
The program is set to align traditional skills with market demands, focusing on bamboo craftsmanship, wood carving, and other local trades. Chaudhary emphasized the need for regional cooperation under the “Act First for Northeast” policy, highlighting the region’s double-digit growth and its critical role in India’s $5 trillion economy target.
In Itanagar , the initiative holds promise for local entrepreneurs. With access to incubation programs, mentorship, and funding, Itanagar’s emerging startup ecosystem is poised to thrive, bridging traditional industries with new market opportunities.
