Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu is advancing India–Japan relations during his official visit to Tokyo, focusing on enhancing cooperation in infrastructure, technology, trade, and cultural exchanges. Khandu held a key meeting with Yasutoshi Nishimura, Member of Japan’s House of Representatives and Chairman of the Japan–India Parliamentary Friendship League. The discussion focused on deepening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for development cooperation. “We discussed taking forward the India–Japan partnership to further strengthen our cultural ties and explore avenues of development cooperation,” Khandu shared on X after the meeting.
In another engagement, Khandu met Toshiaki Nishikawa, Chairman and CEO of ASEAN Group Co. Ltd., who reiterated his commitment to increasing the presence of Indian professionals in Japan. Nishikawa also highlighted ongoing collaborations with Indian states to promote Japanese language learning and skill development. Khandu welcomed the initiatives, emphasizing that workforce cooperation could play a pivotal role in building a stronger India–Japan partnership. During a luncheon with senior Japanese leaders—including Itsunori Onodera, Chair of the Policy Research Council; Yoshiaki Wada, former Member of the House of Representatives; and Rui Matsukawa, Member of the House of Councillors—Khandu discussed strategies to deepen bilateral relations. He described the interaction as “insightful” and aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for closer cooperation between the two nations.
Khandu also visited Sankyo Frontier Co. Ltd., known for its modular and factory-built construction solutions. Praising the technology’s potential for rapid, all-weather construction in challenging terrains, he said such innovations could significantly boost infrastructure development in Arunachal Pradesh and the broader Himalayan region.
