Mission Mullek

In a significant step towards boosting rural tourism and environmental conservation, Seram village in Arunachal Pradesh has launched ‘Mission Mullek’ (Palm Yard Village) under the Eco-Clean Mebo Mission (ECMM). The initiative, launched on February 24, is a collaborative effort involving the Modi Welfare Society (MWS) and the Mebo Administration, aimed at promoting eco-tourism and sustainable development in the region. The project is designed to enhance the tourism potential of Seram village while ensuring environmental preservation and economic self-reliance for the local community. The launch ceremony, held at the Seram village community hall (Mosup), witnessed the presence of several dignitaries. Retired Deputy Director of Agriculture, Obang Doso Panggam, attended as the chief guest, while Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) of Mebo, Nancy Yirang, graced the occasion as the guest of honour. The event was closely monitored by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mebo and ECMM Chairman, Sibo Passing, along with ECMM Manager, Olen Megu Damin.

As a symbolic gesture to mark the beginning of Mission Mullek, a plantation drive was carried out, where 150 Areca nut saplings were planted. This initiative aims to increase the village’s green cover while simultaneously leveraging Areca nut cultivation as a source of income for villagers, fostering both economic growth and sustainable tourism. Speaking at the event, officials emphasized that Mission Mullek has the potential to transform Seram into a thriving rural tourism hub. The village, known for its serene landscapes and rich biodiversity, is expected to benefit from increased tourism, which in turn will create livelihood opportunities for the local population. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Eco-Clean Mebo Mission (ECMM), spearheaded by Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng and ADC Mebo Sibo Passing. The mission focuses on environmental conservation, waste management, and sustainable rural development, ensuring that tourism growth does not come at the cost of ecological degradation.

With the launch of Mission Mullek, Seram village is setting a precedent for community-driven eco-tourism and sustainable agriculture. The project not only seeks to attract visitors through its natural beauty but also emphasizes responsible tourism practices, ensuring that the region’s cultural and environmental integrity is preserved.
