In a significant step towards combating tuberculosis (TB) in Arunachal Pradesh, Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.) visited the District Tuberculosis (TB) Centre in Aalo, West Siang District, on September 26, 2024. This visit is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to eradicate TB. During his tour, the Governor inspected the facility, which coordinates TB control activities across multiple districts, including West Siang, Lower Siang, Leparada, Shi Yomi, and Siang. As a Nikshay Mitra under the National TB Elimination Program (NTEP), he adopted two TB patients, providing them with nutritional, diagnostic, and vocational support. He also presented food baskets to these patients to aid their recovery.

In his address to health officials, Governor Parnaik emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of eliminating tuberculosis by 2025, ahead of the global target set by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He urged collaboration among community members and health professionals to raise awareness about TB and promote healthier lifestyles. Praising the medical staff for their dedication, he highlighted the compassionate care they provide. Health officials, including Dr. Dubom Bagra and Dr. Karken Rina, briefed the Governor on TB and other health challenges in the region.

Following his visit to the TB Centre, Governor Parnaik toured the Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Darka, which recently received the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) Certification from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He commended the commitment of health officials in enhancing healthcare quality in the region.
