India’s Oil Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, has conveyed his assurance regarding the fulfillment of oil requirements from alternative sources should Russian supplies be affected by secondary sanctions. This statement follows a warning from US President Donald Trump, indicating that nations acquiring Russian exports may encounter sanctions if Moscow does not achieve a peace agreement with Ukraine within a 50-day timeframe. Puri further emphasized that India has broadened its supply sources, increasing from 27 countries to approximately 40 at present. A spokesperson for India’s foreign ministry stated that securing energy needs is an “overriding priority” and warned against the application of double standards. In the first half of this year, India’s oil imports from Russia experienced a slight increase, with private refiners Reliance Industries Ltd and Nayara Energy accounting for nearly half of the total purchases from Moscow.
