ICR Administration Warns Against Panic LPG Booking, Steps Up Checks on Hoarding

The Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) administration has urged consumers not to panic-book or stockpile LPG cylinders, warning that such behavior could create an artificial shortage of cooking gas in the region.
In a recent circular, District Magistrate Toko Babu noted that several consumers have been booking LPG cylinders beyond their monthly requirements due to panic. He cautioned that this trend may disrupt the normal supply chain and lead to hoarding, black marketing, and price manipulation.
Echoing similar concerns, the Tirap district administration has issued a stern warning, stating that strict legal action will be taken against any individual or business found engaging in illegal practices such as hoarding or overpricing of LPG cylinders.
To ensure fair distribution of essential commodities, a joint inspection drive was conducted on Friday by officials from the food and civil supplies department, police, and legal metrology and consumer affairs department. The inspections targeted LPG agencies, petrol pumps, markets, and commercial establishments across the district.
The inspection team, led by Khonsa Additional Deputy Commissioner Namneet Singh, reviewed stock registers, sales records, and pricing mechanisms related to LPG, motor spirit (MS), and high-speed diesel (HSD). Authorities focused on detecting irregularities such as unauthorized storage, diversion of commodities, and any attempts to manipulate prices.
Officials also engaged with traders and consumers during the drive, emphasizing the need for transparency, fair trade practices, and adherence to government regulations. They reiterated that maintaining market discipline is essential to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential petroleum products.
The administration has made it clear that such monitoring exercises will continue regularly, especially in light of the current global energy supply situation. Consumers have been advised to remain calm and purchase LPG only as per their actual needs to help maintain a balanced and steady supply across the region.
