In a major boost to youth representation in local governance, 29-year-old Iter Bam from New Bam Village has been elected unopposed as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) from the 11A Basar Zilla Segment in Arunachal Pradesh’s Leparada district. Her unchallenged victory marks a significant milestone for the region, making her the youngest elected ZPM in the district.
Bam’s election has drawn widespread appreciation across Basar, with residents celebrating her as a symbol of emerging youth leadership. Known for her strong academic background, she holds a BA (Honours) and MA in History, a B.Ed, and a Diploma in Yoga—credentials that many believe will enrich her administrative responsibilities.
Community members say her uncontested win reflects the public’s confidence in her abilities, integrity, and commitment to serve. Her entry into public life is often viewed as a continuation of the values upheld by her late father, Er. Dagi Bam, who was respected for his work and contributions to the community. Elders from the village expressed hope that she would carry forward his legacy with the same sense of responsibility and dedication.
