A cadre of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (ULFA-I) was killed in an armed confrontation with security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district on Monday night, officials confirmed. The gunfight erupted around 10 pm on October 21 near the 6 Mile area, prompting a swift response from Assam Rifles personnel deployed in the region.
According to security sources, the militant group involved was believed to be connected to a recent assault on the Kakopathar Army camp in Assam. The deceased militant has been identified as Iwan Axom, also known by aliases Konti Axom and Abhikeshwar Moran.
During the encounter, troops recovered an HK rifle, a hand grenade, and a bag from the deceased militant. Authorities said these items would be examined for further intelligence on ULFA (I) operations in the region. “The firefight was intense, but our forces acted swiftly to neutralize the threat,” a senior security official stated.
