India has issued a stern rebuttal to Beijing following China’s latest attempt to rename several locations in Arunachal Pradesh. Terming the move “mischievous” and “fictitious,” the Ministry of External Affairs asserted that such administrative maneuvers cannot change the ground reality of India’s territorial sovereignty.

The Government of India on Sunday categorically rejected China’s move to assign Chinese names to various places within Arunachal Pradesh. In a sharp diplomatic response, New Delhi stated that manufacturing baseless narratives and introducing false claims would have no impact on the status of the region, which remains an “integral and inalienable” part of the country.

The reaction from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) followed Beijing’s recent announcement regarding the “standardization” of geographical names in the Northeastern state. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal dismissed the act as a futile attempt to alter the undeniable reality of Indian territories. He emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh “was, is, and will always remain” a part of India, regardless of any fictitious labels assigned by the Chinese side.

Beyond the territorial dispute, New Delhi highlighted the diplomatic fallout of such actions. Jaiswal noted that these “mischievous attempts” detract from the delicate, ongoing efforts to stabilize and normalize bilateral ties between the two Asian giants. The Ministry further urged Beijing to refrain from provocative actions that inject negativity into the relationship and undermine the work being done to create a better mutual understanding.

India’s stance remains firm: administrative actions taken by a foreign power on Indian soil hold no legal or geographical standing. The MEA reiterated that China’s persistence in this “naming game” only serves to complicate the border situation and hinder the path toward peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
