The Bank of India (BoI) opened a new branch at Gumin Nagar, a 2-mile stretch along the National Highway in Pasighat, in a major effort to improve customer convenience and banking accessibility. East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani opened the branch and praised the bank’s choice to locate outside of the crowded market district. DC Jiwani, who lit the ceremonial lamp to commemorate the event, praised the initiative and said that most banks are typically located in the main market areas, which makes consumers uncomfortable because of crowding and parking space constraints.
“As a Smart City, Pasighat is emerging as one of Arunachal Pradesh’s key urban hubs,” the Deputy Commissioner said, highlighting the city’s rapid urban growth. People from all walks of life, including government workers, business owners, farmers, students, and villagers, need dependable and easily available banking services as the population grows. This growing demand will be effectively met by the new branch. Jiwani stressed the value of online banking services in response to worries about the concentration of government transactions at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch, which frequently results in crowding.
The Bank of India inaugurated its Pasighat branch in the presence of Zonal Manager Vinaya Kumar Singh, Deputy Zonal Manager Subrat Pattanaik, and Senior Branch Manager Rebecca Sumer, along with local officials and dignitaries. Singh highlighted the bank’s 120-year legacy and commitment to providing quality financial services in East Siang. Following the ceremony, a memorial plantation drive titled ‘Saplings of Love’ was held at Pasighat Smart City Recreation Centre in tribute to late singer Zubeen Garg. Nahor and native saplings were planted, symbolizing love and legacy. The event was organized in collaboration with ATASU Kamrup Metro, local NGOs, and community members.
