Consumer tech firm Nothing, founded by Carl Pei, is set to invest over $100 million in India and create more than 1,800 jobs over the next three years. Announcing the plan on social media, Pei highlighted his recent meeting with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, praising India’s pivotal role in shaping the global smartphone industry.

As part of the expansion, Nothing will establish CMF, a new subsidiary headquartered in India, with the goal of building the country’s first global consumer tech brand. This unit will oversee the entire product lifecycle—from design and manufacturing to distribution—giving the company more control and scalability.

A central component of the strategy is a manufacturing joint venture with Indian tech manufacturer Optiemus. This collaboration will support local production, create jobs, and boost India’s presence in the global tech landscape.

Pei called the initiative a major milestone in realizing Nothing’s vision of building “from India, to the world.” Known for its minimalist smartphone design, Nothing’s expansion reflects India’s rising status as a global hub for tech innovation, talent, and manufacturing.
