In a fresh development linked to ongoing peace efforts in Arunachal Pradesh, an underground cadre of the NSCN-K (Khango Konyak faction) surrendered before security forces in Tirap district on February 10, 2026. Officials said the surrender is part of continued efforts to bring militants back into the mainstream and improve the security situation in the region.
According to official sources, the surrendered cadre has been identified as SS Lieutenant Wangkhu Lowang, 32, a resident of Moktowa village under Dadam police station in Tirap district. He surrendered before Tirap Police at Khonsa in the presence of personnel from the 44th Assam Rifles and the 36th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
During the surrender, the militant handed over a 7.65 mm pistol, reportedly manufactured in Kachin, bearing registration number 4702. Along with the weapon, he also surrendered one magazine and six rounds of live 7.65 mm ammunition. Officials confirmed that the recovered items have been taken into police custody for further legal procedures.
Security officials stated that such voluntary surrenders indicate that ongoing outreach and rehabilitation efforts by security agencies are yielding results. Authorities have been encouraging underground cadres to give up violence and return to normal life through various surrender and rehabilitation policies.
