Palfinger Partners TVS Mobility for ₹350-Crore Pune Plant

Austria-based lifting solutions major Palfinger AG has partnered with TVS Mobility Group to establish a new manufacturing facility in Pune with an initial investment of €30 million (around ₹350 crore). The plant is expected to become operational by the end of 2027. The move marks Palfinger’s most significant localization effort in India since it entered the market in 2007. Under the strategic partnership, TVS Mobility Group will serve as Palfinger’s end-to-end mobility partner in the country, offering integrated services across supply chain management, logistics, sales, spare parts distribution, service support, and aftermarket operations.
Company officials described the alliance as going beyond a traditional distributor model, with a strong emphasis on ensuring equipment uptime and faster service response—especially in remote and infrastructure-intensive regions.
Palfinger CEO Andreas Klauser said India has emerged as the company’s single-largest growth opportunity under its ‘Strategy 2030 plus’ roadmap. The company, which reported global revenues of approximately €2.5 billion, expects India to contribute a double-digit share to its worldwide revenues in the coming years.
The upcoming Pune plant will have an initial annual production capacity of over 1,000 units, mainly truck-mounted cranes and key steel components. These products will cater to both domestic demand and export markets across Asia-Pacific and other regions. The first phase is expected to generate around 200 jobs, with future capacity expansion already factored into the project plan.
India’s infrastructure expansion—covering highways, railways, metros, housing, defense, and waste management—has been cited as a major driver behind the investment decision. As projects expand into Tier-II and Tier-III cities, demand for reliable lifting solutions and timely service support is increasing.
Currently, most Palfinger equipment sold in India is imported and assembled locally. With increased localization, the company expects cost savings of up to 30 percent, potentially broadening adoption across multiple sectors.
In addition to manufacturing, Palfinger has established a global engineering center in Pune in partnership with L&T Technology Services to support product development for global markets.
The exclusive partnership between Palfinger and TVS Mobility for India-manufactured products reflects a long-term strategic collaboration, positioning India as both a key domestic market and an emerging export hub.
