Pani Manju Joram of Arunachal Pradesh has etched her name in history as the first athlete from the state to secure medals at the prestigious Asian Cup Muaythai Championship, held in Taipei, Taiwan. Joram clinched a silver medal in the traditional Wai-Kru ceremony and a bronze in the 57-kg elite category.

Facing tough competition, Joram went head-to-head with Yi-Ching Chen of Chinese Taipei in the Wai-Kru finals, a ceremonial dance performed before Muaythai bouts to honor trainers and ancestors. Her performance not only highlighted her skill but also showcased the cultural depth of Muaythai.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded her accomplishment on social media, calling Joram the “Pride of India” and celebrating her milestone achievement for the northeastern state. The championship brought together elite fighters from Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Mongolia, and India, underscoring Muaythai’s growing prominence across Asia.
