Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday inaugurated a series of key infrastructure and welfare projects in Dirang, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to improving living standards in remote border regions. The programme, organised at the SSB Dirang campus under the supervision of the Commandant of the 30 Battalion SSB, formed part of the Government of India’s Vibrant Villages initiative. The event drew a large crowd, with nearly 7,000 people attending, including senior officials from the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Arunachal Pradesh Police, and the district administration. The strong inter-agency presence underscored the collaborative approach toward strengthening border settlements. As part of the developmental outreach, benefits were extended to villages such as Lubrang, Sange, and Sangti, along with Jyotinagar Government School and Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Dirang.
Local communities and institutions received essential materials including solar street lights, water purifiers, and sports equipment, aimed at improving public amenities and community engagement. Speaking at the function, Chief Minister Khandu praised the efforts of security forces stationed in the region, particularly the SSB, for balancing border security duties with sustained developmental support. “The Seema Suraksha Bal has been instrumental not only in safeguarding our borders but also in empowering communities through their civic initiatives. Their contribution in these difficult terrains is truly commendable,” Khandu said. He noted that the Vibrant Villages Programme has become a crucial driver of growth in frontier districts by focusing on connectivity, infrastructure upgrades, and livelihood support. According to the Chief Minister, these initiatives reflect the state’s larger effort to ensure that people living in border belts feel secure, supported, and connected to the national mainstream.
Khandu also pointed out that empowerment of border communities strengthens national security and enhances the resilience of the region. He said the government is working on long-term strategies to boost tourism, agriculture, and youth development in areas like Dirang, which hold strategic as well as cultural significance.The day’s programme highlighted the state’s continued emphasis on holistic and inclusive development in one of India’s most sensitive border zones. It also showcased growing cooperation between civil administration and security forces in delivering welfare schemes to remote populations.
