Pema Khandu, the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh, welcomed the recently elected local self-governing body delegates and urged them to work tirelessly to advance development throughout the state and bolster grassroots democracy. Khandu greeted 2,108 Gram Panchayat Chairpersons and 27 recently sworn Zilla Parishad Chairpersons who have assumed leadership in various regions of Arunachal Pradesh in a social media post on January 10. “My heartfelt congratulations to all the newly sworn 27 Zilla Parishad Chairpersons (ZPCs) and 2,108 Gram Panchayat Chairpersons (GPCs) across Arunachal Pradesh,” Khandu posted to X.

According to the Chief Minister, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Panchayati Raj institutions have grown in significance and are essential to nation-building since they bring governance closer to the people. Khandu expressed confidence in the new office-bearers, saying they will contribute to inclusive progress in their respective districts and serve their communities with a strong sense of public duty. He also wished them well as they started their new roles, emphasizing the necessity of cooperation and dedication to guarantee that growth reaches the state’s grassroots level.

The BJP won 25 of the 27 Zilla Parishad Chairperson positions in the panchayat elections that were held in Arunachal Pradesh on December 15. The People’s Party of Arunachal and the Nationalist Congress Party each received one seat. Eleven ZPC positions were won by women, demonstrating their significant presence in local leadership. In the gram panchayat elections, the BJP also did well, winning over 6,000 of the 8,208 seats. The party won 170 of the 245 seats in the elections for Zilla Parishad members, and 44 candidates were elected without opposition, demonstrating its strong performance throughout the state.
