Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh underlined his government’s strong commitment to modernizing the frontier state through improved railway connectivity, calling the current measures a “giant leap” towards inclusive development and economic progress. “Rail connectivity is transforming Arunachal! In a post on X, the chief minister stated, “Great progress is being made to connect every part of our state with the national railway network.” Khandu also highlighted a number of ambitious railway infrastructure projects that are now under way around the state.
Among these, the Amrit Bharat program is presently upgrading the Naharlagun Railway Station, the first significant railhead in the capital area, with the goal of enhancing passenger amenities, station facilities, and capacity to manage increasing traffic. In a similar vein, the Pasighat Railway station, which is anticipated to be finished by December of this year, would be an essential transportation center for the eastern region of Arunachal Pradesh, facilitating the flow of passengers and products by linking the Siang belt to the national network. Khandu added that the Pasighat–Tezu–Parshuram Kund–Rupai railway line’s detailed project report (DPR) has been finished, opening the door for the subsequent stage of construction.
Once in service, the line should increase tourism and trade along the Brahmaputra valley corridor by serving as a vital link between important cultural and economic zones, according to officials. The chief minister added that field-level surveys for two other strategically important routes—Misamari–Tawang (198 km) and Silapathar–Bame–Along (96 km)—have been successfully finished. These routes are extremely important from a strategic and developmental standpoint. The Misamari–Tawang route will improve access to the high-altitude areas close to the Indo-China border and help to fortify the area’s national security framework.
