Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over the loss of 14 people from Assam in a road incident in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district earlier this week. “Distressed by the loss of lives due to a mishap in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. My thoughts are with the families.The Prime Minister wrote on X, “I pray for the quick recovery of those injured.”.. He also announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each from the PMNRF for the families and ₹50,000 for those injured.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that all 14 individuals were residents of Tinsukia district and expressed heartfelt condolences. He added that officials from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh were working together as seven people remain untraceable. The incident occurred on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam Road when a truck carrying passengers slipped off the road. Rescue operations began shortly after the authorities were informed around 11 am on Thursday. Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Swapneel Paul said coordination with Anjaw and Tezu DCs was ongoing. “Fourteen individuals have been located so far, and one person has been found alive,” he said. Assam Minister Bimal Bora has reached the site to review the situation.
