Actress Shamita Shetty recently revealed that she was diagnosed with endometriosis from her hospital bed. On social media, Shamita requested that her fans know all the details about this disease. Shamita said, “Many women do not know that they are suffering from endometriosis. But this problem is very painful and uncomfortable for the body. The doctors are doing my surgery; hopefully I will be back to my pain-free days soon.”

What exactly is endometriosis?

The inner layer of the uterus is the endometrium. Menstruation occurs when the endometrium layer of the uterus sheds every month. That blood exits the uterus through the birth canal and exits the body. But if the endometrium grows outside the uterus, anywhere in the abdomen, or anywhere else in the body, it is called endometriosis. If the endometrium moves to another part of the body, the bleeding that occurs in that layer starts to clot there. Then pressure builds up in the surrounding cells. This creates the possibility of ‘cyst’. Endometrium is most common in the ovaries, back of the abdomen, urinary bladder, excretory tract, and base of the reproductive tract. This disease is called endometriosis.

Be warned in advance if you see any symptoms?

  1. Many people suffer from severe abdominal pain during menstruation. But if endometriosis is the problem, this pain increases many times. Even before and after menstruation, the pain lasts for several days. Pain is also in the lower abdomen and waist.
  2. Endometriosis can cause pain during intercourse. This pain persists for several days after intercourse. Be careful if you have such a problem.
  3. Endometriosis can cause lower abdominal pain during bowel movements and urination. These problems are usually aggravated during the days of menstruation.
  4. Endometriosis can cause excessive bleeding during menstruation. Intermenstrual bleeding can also occur between periods of two months.
  5. In some, but not all, cases, endometriosis can cause problems with conception. Talk to your doctor if it doesn’t resolve after multiple pregnancies.
