An inter-state police operation has been launched in connection with an alleged loan fraud case involving about Rs 1.5 crore, with the police in Arunachal Pradesh seeking help from their counterparts in Punjab to trace the accused.
Police sources said Roing Police have formally approached Punjab Police for assistance in the case. The request was sent to Shamdoo Police Station in Patiala district following a complaint filed by Pailo Mihu, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Arun Kumar, allegedly took loans from two different sources in the name of Bestway Health and Future Pvt. Ltd.. Police said the accused is alleged to have borrowed Rs 1.25 crore from another lender and Rs 25 lakh from the complainant, assuring that the entire amount would be repaid within a fixed period.
However, the accused allegedly failed to return the money even after repeated requests. Police sources said that after taking the funds, Arun Kumar is believed to have gone into hiding, making it difficult for the local police to trace him. The complainant has also alleged that the accused later filed a false complaint in an attempt to mislead authorities and create confusion during the investigation.
As part of the ongoing probe, Roing Police have requested Punjab Police to locate the accused and direct him to appear before the investigating officer at Roing Police Station by February 15. Officials said the purpose of the appearance is to record his statement and verify the financial transactions linked to the case.
