The department has provided various recommendations for maintaining health during the current monsoon season. In order to address the issue of mosquitoes and to prevent diseases such as Malaria, Dengue, and Chikungunya, it is advised that residents secure their doors and windows with mosquito nets or screens, and that beds and cribs be protected with mosquito nets. Additionally, the application of mosquito repellents is suggested as a preventive measure. It is essential to keep domestic drains clear to avoid water accumulation and to cover septic tanks with mesh to prevent mosquito breeding. Moreover, it is recommended to observe a ‘Friday-Dry Day’ each week to remove stagnant water from around residences.
To avert waterborne diseases such as Acute Gastroenteritis, Jaundice, and Typhoid, it is recommended that the public consume filtered or boiled water and practice thorough handwashing, particularly before and after meals. It is advisable to refrain from consuming stale food from external sources. In relation to airborne illnesses such as viral fevers and Influenza, the advisory suggests avoiding handshakes with those who are ill, or when one is feeling unwell.
Frequent use hand sanitisers is advised to prevent infection, and a handkerchief should be used when sneezing or coughing. If anyone develops flu-like symptoms such as a cough with fever, headache, sore throat, and accompanying body pains, they should seek medical attention at nearby government health facilities. In case of a health emergency, citizens are urged to dial 108 for Ambulance Services.
