In a significant initiative to address the rising challenge of drug abuse in Arunachal Pradesh, Pasighat East MLA Tapi Darang on Saturday inaugurated a De-Addiction-cum-Rehabilitation Centre set up by ‘The Sober Society’ at Gobo, approximately 3 km from Tode Village Char-ali near Rani Village. The centre, founded by reformed youth leader Shri Mingat Mibang, who successfully overcame drug addiction, aims to provide a structured and supportive environment for individuals struggling with substance abuse. With a capacity to accommodate 45 inmates, the facility offers comprehensive medical and psychological care, detoxification units, and a 90-day rehabilitation programme tailored to help individuals regain control over their lives.

Addressing concerns about privately run de-addiction centres, MLA Darang emphasized the importance of transparency and responsible management. “This centre must stand as a home of transformation for our youth — a place of trust, not fear,” he said. Darang also praised the centre’s infrastructure and facilities, assuring full support and cooperation from the government. The inauguration was attended by prominent dignitaries including Shri Pankaj Lamba (IPS), Superintendent of Police, East Siang; Dr. Yagling Perme, District Medical Officer; Smty Mailong Taku Padung, Deputy Director, ICDS; Dr. Tasi Taloh, Principal of JNC; Shri Gagam Ering (P/L); Joya Tasung Moyong, WASE General Secretary; Kennedy Bagra from Mothers’ Vision, Aalo; and Smty Dui Gao, retired Senior Lecturer and wife of MP Tapir Gao.

As a non-profit, non-political, and voluntary organization, The Sober Society focuses on evidence-based, holistic treatment combining therapeutic techniques with a supportive residential environment. The centre is equipped with an administrative office, waiting hall, two dormitories, staff and security quarters, a dining hall with 60-seat capacity, a therapeutic hall, and a detoxification room. CCTV surveillance with 15 cameras ensures safety and monitoring for residents.
