Tawang is preparing to welcome athletes from across the globe for the Tawang International Marathon 2025, set to take place on October 24. The momentum for the much-anticipated sporting event gained significant pace with a major coordination meeting held on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of the Tawang Indian Army Brigade. This crucial meeting brought together the District Administration, Indian Army, and event organizers Cyruns to chalk out detailed strategies for a well-orchestrated and memorable marathon. The gathering was led by Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo, IAS, and Brigadier Bhupal Singh, SM, of the Indian Army’s Tawang Brigade, with Cyruns representatives joining virtually to share updates and progress reports.
The meeting kicked off with a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation by the Indian Army officers, who reflected on lessons learned from previous editions and laid out the roadmap for the upcoming event. The focus was on streamlining logistics, strengthening communication, and enhancing the overall marathon experience — from route safety to hospitality and eco-conscious measures. DC Namgyal Angmo, while addressing the stakeholders, emphasized the broader significance of the event: “Tawang International Marathon is not just a sporting spectacle. It is a platform to showcase the vibrant culture, hospitality, and scenic beauty of our region. This year, we aim to elevate the standards of organization and sustainability.”
Brigadier Bhupal Singh echoed this sentiment, saying, “It is a matter of pride for the Indian Army to partner with the district administration and Cyruns in hosting such a prestigious event. Together, we aim to deliver a marathon that is secure, inspiring, and reflective of the indomitable spirit of Tawang.” One of the key decisions taken during the meeting was to step up environmental responsibility. In a landmark move, organizers agreed to eliminate the use of pet plastic water bottles for participants. Additionally, all stakeholders committed to minimizing single-use plastic in the creation of banners, posters, and publicity materials.
