The prohibition on single-use plastics and one-liter bottles has been loosened by the Nagaland government until November 30, 2024. The decision has set forth requirements that must be fulfilled and has taken into consideration all industry-related and public interest considerations. The government has asked all retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers who are using single-use plastics or bottles of less than 1-litre to sell off their existing stock in this extended period. In a statement, the DIPR emphasized that the manufacturer and suppliers needed to implement efficient methods for gathering and getting rid of used plastic bottles.

It was recommended that the deputy commissioners personally inform all Urban Local Bodies and village authorities of the aforementioned directive in order to ensure strict adherence to it and to take appropriate action for the collection, disposal, and responsible handling of waste plastic in their respective areas. It stated that the remaining terms and circumstances of the initial notice, which was sent out on July 10, 2024, would remain unchanged. On October 7, the Village Council Hall in Monyakshu hosted the combined announcement of the village’s status as a “No Plastic Zone” and the opening of the Green Community Club.

According to a statement issued by the organizers, it was jointly organised with district administration, the Forest Department of Mon, and local stakeholders, including Monyakshu Village Council, Monyakshu Village Students’ Union, KNSK Monyakshu Unit, Monyakshu Village Baptist Church, and the Monyakshu Citizens’ Union. The proclamation and introduction of the bill demanded a significant decrease in plastic waste and the elimination of single-use plastics. It espouses the inculcation of a culture of sustainability by reusing, recycling, and limiting sources of plastic pollution to water, earth, and animals. It ought to promote more advantageous substitutes and innovations.
