In a step that combines art, civic pride, and environmental awareness, the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) is turning the city’s underpass into a canvas of change. On Friday, September 12, IMC Mayor Tamme Phassang, along with corporators and senior officials, inspected the progress of the ongoing mural painting work at the Underpass-Itanagar, a project being carried out under the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign.

The initiative, led by local artists, is part of the corporation’s broader effort to beautify public spaces while spreading strong messages of cleanliness, green living, and community harmony. By engaging homegrown talent, the campaign not only uplifts the city’s visual appeal but also empowers local painters and creators who play a central role in shaping Itanagar’s identity. During the inspection, Mayor Phassang praised the artists for their dedication and creativity, calling the underpass mural a “living example” of how art can inspire civic responsibility. “It is my distinct honor to witness the progress of this captivating mural, which will enhance the beauty of our city while motivating citizens to maintain cleanliness and support a green and peaceful environment,” he said.

Phassang further highlighted that the mural will serve as a permanent visual reminder of the city’s collective responsibility in maintaining a sustainable and welcoming environment. He also underlined the importance of inclusive urban beautification projects that involve community participation, noting that Itanagar’s residents are central to the success of such initiatives.
