A 20-year-old woman identified as Kajal Bariak from Tarraso village under Balijan Police Station lost her life in a suspected train-related accident near Kolma, Doimukh, on Friday morning. The incident occurred between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM, along the tracks where the Donyi Polo Express was passing on its usual route from Guwahati to Naharlagun. According to preliminary reports shared by Superintendent of Police Taru Gusar, the young woman—who worked as a domestic helper in the area—may have jumped in front of the moving train. Her body was discovered later by railway staff and local passengers near the railway tracks, close to the Tana Hari Fish Farm.

Soon after the incident, officers from Doimukh Police Station rushed to the scene. Based on initial observations, a case of Unnatural Death (UD) has been registered. The body was subsequently taken to Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Naharlagun for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities await the forensic report for further clarity. The tragic death has raised concerns among local communities and railway officials. While the cause—whether accidental or intentional—is yet to be confirmed, SP Taru Gusar has issued a public advisory urging citizens, especially morning walkers and domestic workers, to stay away from railway tracks. “We appeal to the public to remain alert and avoid walking close to the railway lines. Such places can be dangerous, and we must take every precaution to prevent such tragic incidents,” said Gusar.

Doimukh, a semi-rural locality in Arunachal Pradesh, sees regular train movement, with the Donyi Polo Express serving as a key connection between the state capital region and Guwahati. The stretch near Kolma has no official pedestrian crossing, which increases the risk for those moving near the tracks, especially in the early hours.
