
According to an official here on Friday, the state government has undertaken ambitious transmission and distribution infrastructure projects to prepare the state for immediate power evacuation and distribution, given the numerous hydropower projects with a combined generation capacity of 11517 MW currently under way in Arunachal Pradesh. According to a senior Power Department official, the three Hydro CPSUs—National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVN), and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO)—commissioned 12 projects with a total installed capacity of roughly 11,517 MW. According to the official, just 1% of the more than 58,000 MW of hydro potential in the strategically significant state of Arunachal Pradesh has been used to date.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein presided over a five-hour review meeting on a comprehensive plan to strengthen Arunachal Pradesh’s transmission and distribution system. The plan is crucial for ensuring reliable power supply, especially in underserved and remote areas. Mein emphasized the government’s focus on the power sector and called for a robust network to support hydropower projects. He asked the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited to expedite remaining works and ensure the timely completion of the Comprehensive Scheme for strengthening the Transmission and Distribution System.
