Starting September 1, SBI Card will update its rewards programme, discontinuing reward points for certain spending categories on select credit cards. Holders of the Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card, SELECT, and PRIME variants will no longer earn points for transactions on digital gaming platforms or government-related payments. This includes spending on online game credits, in-app purchases, and payments through government websites or portals.

These changes impact how cardholders accumulate and redeem points, which are typically used for vouchers, discounts, or merchandise. By excluding lower-margin categories like gaming and government transactions, SBI Card aims to optimize its reward offerings, a move that aligns with common industry practices. Banks often revise rewards based on customer behaviour and profitability metrics.

For cardholders who regularly spend in these categories, this shift could lead to a slower buildup of reward points. To stay ahead, users should consider redeeming accumulated points before the revision takes effect and check the SBI Card website for further updates. With evolving credit card reward structures, staying informed is essential to make the most of available benefits.
