Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Monday said that India has entered a new and confident phase of trade diplomacy, pointing to the signing of seven Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) in the last five years as clear proof of the country’s growing presence in the global economy. In a post shared on social media platform X, Mein said India’s approach to trade has changed in recent years. He noted that the country is now negotiating with clarity and confidence, moving away from hesitation seen in the past. According to him, this shift reflects a more focused and purposeful trade policy.
Mein said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s trade strategy has become more self-assured. He added that the recent FTAs show a nation that is shaping its own opportunities in global markets rather than waiting for them. Explaining the importance of these agreements, the Deputy Chief Minister said the FTAs are not only about reducing tariffs. He said they are meant to widen market access for Indian products, attract investments, and connect Indian industries more closely with global supply chains. He also said these agreements can help Indian businesses compete better at the international level.
Officials familiar with the trade policy said the focus of the FTAs has been on protecting domestic interests while also opening doors to global integration. They said the agreements aim to support manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ programme, encourage foreign direct investment, and create new opportunities for exports and jobs.
